Eight Attorneys From Shatz, Schwartz and Fentin Named to the 2016 Super Lawyers List

Local law firm Shatz, Schwartz and Fentin, P.C., serving Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York, today announced that eight attorneys from the firm were selected to the 2016 Massachusetts Super Lawyers List and three attorneys were selected to the 2016 Massachusetts Rising Stars List. Attorneys are selected from more than 70 practices areas; no more than five percent of attorneys are recognized throughout the state.

Shareholder Michele J. Feinstein, a resident of Longmeadow, concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning and administration, elder law, probate litigation, health law and corporate and business planning, including all aspects of planning for the succession of business interests, representation of closely held businesses and their owners and representation of physicians in their individual and group practices. For the 10th consecutive year, Attorney Feinstein was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of closely held business.

Shareholder Gary S. Fentin, a resident of Conway, concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial and real estate finance and development, industrial revenue bonds, affordable housing, estate planning, business law and business foreclosures and workouts. He manages the firm’s tax-exempt bond practice and has acted as bond counsel and/or purchaser’s counsel in hundreds of such issues since 1978. He is the only counsel with offices west of Worcester who has been approved as bond counsel to the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency. Attorney Fentin was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of government finance, he has been consistently selected by Super Lawyers for more than a decade.

Shareholder Carol Cioe Klyman, a resident of Westhampton, concentrates her practice in the areas of elder law, estate planning and administration, special needs trust planning, estate settlement, guardianships and trust and estates litigation. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers for 12 years in a row, including selection to the Super Lawyers list (2007-2016) and the Rising Stars list (2005-2006). Klyman was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of elder law. Additionally, Attorney Klyman has been selected to the Super Lawyers 2016 Massachusetts Top 50 Women list. Female attorneys on the top list are ranked top of the list in the Super Lawyers selection process.

Managing Partner Timothy P. Mulhern, a resident of Longmeadow, concentrates his practice in the areas of family business planning, taxation, corporate law, commercial real estate and estate planning. Attorney Mulhern was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of tax law.

Shareholder Steven J. Schwartz, a resident of Monterey, concentrates his practice in the areas of family business planning, mergers and acquisitions, corporate law and estate planning. His practice involves representation of principals in family business planning (including exit planning for business owners), representation of individuals and corporations in the purchase and sale of business enterprises, strategic planning for the future of clients’ businesses and providing advice as to alternatives in financing through loans and venture capital. Attorney Schwartz was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of business and corporate law. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers year-after-year for more than a decade. 

Shareholder James B. Sheils, a resident of East Longmeadow where he previously served as the town moderator, concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial finance law, creditors’ rights, banking law and telecommunications siting matters. Attorney Sheils was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of banking law.

Shareholder Ann I. Weber (Ami) is a resident of Granville, and concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, probate and elder law. She has a particular interest in creative estate planning for authors, artists, farmers and landowners. Attorney Weber was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of elder law. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers for 13 consecutive years.

Shareholder Steven Weiss, a resident of Longmeadow, concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial and consumer bankruptcy, reorganization and litigation. He supervises the firm’s bankruptcy, reorganization and workout practice and represents creditors, debtors and others in both commercial and consumer bankruptcy cases throughout Massachusetts. Weiss has been a member of the private panel of Chapter 7 Trustees for the District of Massachusetts since 1987 and also serves as a Chapter 11 Trustee. Attorney Weiss was selected to the 2016 Super Lawyers list in the field of bankruptcy and business law, marking his 10th consecutive year.

Additionally, three attorneys have been selected to the 2016 Massachusetts Rising Stars list. Each year, no more than 2.5 percent of lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor. To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less.

Attorney Michael A. Fenton, a resident of Springfield, concentrates his practice in the areas of business planning, commercial real estate, estate planning and elder law. He represents principals in business formation and succession planning, businesses in the purchase and sale of enterprises, developers in the acquisition and permitting of projects, and high net worth individuals in establishing comprehensive and sophisticated estate plans. As an attorney with background in tax and a master’s degree in business administration, he provides added value to clients with business planning concerns. In addition, Attorney Fenton has extensive land use experience that includes zoning, subdivision, project permitting and environmental matters. Attorney Fenton was selected to the 2016 Rising Stars list in the field of business and corporate law.

Shareholder L. Alexandra Hogan (Alex), a resident of Longmeadow, concentrates her practice primarily in business, litigation and bankruptcy law. She graduated from Western New England University School of Law in 2008 with cum laude honors and from Bay Path University with summa cum laude honors. Attorney Hogan has been selected to the 2016 Rising Stars list in the field of bankruptcy and business law (2011-2016). Recently, Attorney Hogan was also selected by Mass Lawyers Weekly for an Excellence in the Law award in the Up & Coming lawyers section.

Shareholder David K. Webber, a resident of Amherst, practices in the areas of business transactions, estate and succession planning, taxation, and nonprofits. He serves his community as Chair of the Town of Amherst Planning Board, and his alma mater as a member of the Advisory Committee for the University of Massachusetts Student Legal Services Office. He is also an active member of the Hampden County Bar Association and Real Estate Section; the Massachusetts Bar Association; Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts, and the Estate Planning Counsel of Hampden County. Attorney Webber was selected to the 2016 Rising Stars list in the field of closely held business.
