Springfield-based law firm, Shatz, Schwartz and Fentin, P.C., is excited to announce that Founder and Shareholder Gary S. Fentin was once again selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2022. Attorney Fentin’s nomination for The Best Lawyers in America list was based on his outstanding contributions to the fields of Banking and Finance Law and Commercial Transactions/Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Law.

Best Lawyers is the oldest and most respected peer review publication in the legal profession. Best Lawyers peer-reviewed listings are published in dozens of countries around the world. The 2022 edition includes more than 67,000 attorneys in 148 practice areas, covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and inclusion in this year’s publication is based on more than 9.4 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers. Corporate Counsel magazine has called Best Lawyers “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice.”

Attorney Fentin, a resident of Conway, has long been regarded as one of the preeminent attorneys in western Massachusetts. Attorney Fentin has concentrated his practice in the areas of commercial and real estate finance and development, industrial revenue bonds, affordable housing, business law, and business foreclosures and workouts. Within these practice areas, he additionally oversees the firm’s tax-exempt bond practice, and has served as the firm’s bond and/or purchaser’s counsel for more than 35 years.

He is a graduate of Boston College Law School where he was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Coif honor society and served as an editor of the Law Review, Boston University Law School where he obtained a Master of Laws degree in taxation, and Duke University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He also completed an Intensive Mediation Workshop at Harvard Law School, one of the institution’s signature programs.

Attorney Fentin has been selected to both The Best Lawyers in America and the Massachusetts Super Lawyers® lists and received the highest possible peer rating in the Martindale-Hubbell directory. Having long maintained memberships in the Hampden County and Massachusetts Bar Associations, as well as the National Association of Bond Lawyers, Attorney Fentin has the distinction as the only attorney west of Worcester with approval from the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency to serve as bond counsel.

Throughout his career, Attorney Fentin has been one of the most sought-after attorneys in the area for successfully representing lenders, purchasers, developers, secured lenders and various for-profit and nonprofit organizations in real estate and finance matters.
